Welcome to the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) -- one of the world's first truly multi-disciplinary Internet institutes based in a major university. Devoted to the study of the societal implications of the Internet, the OII seeks to shape research, policy and practice in the UK, Europe and around the world.
The Oxford Internet Institute was launched by an endowment from The Shirley Foundation, with public funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the foresight of colleagues at the University of Oxford and its Colleges. For researchers

Our research faculty, academic visitors and research associates are engaged in a variety of research projects covering social, economic, political, legal, industrial, technical and ethical issues of the Internet in everyday life, governance and democracy, science and learning and shaping the Internet.

For students

We offer a Doctoral degree (DPhil) in Information, Communication and the Social Sciences and contribute to the Masters teaching of various departments at the University of Oxford. Around thirty top doctoral students from around the world congregate every year to attend our Summer Doctoral Programme, which has enjoyed two international stints so far: Beijing 2005 and Boston 2007.
